Dal – Lake

One can aptly say Dal Lake is heart of Srinagar, equally famous and cherished by tourists and locals. Dal   is always in life with ever shine houseboats, blossoming lotuses and vegetable gardens.  Nageen – Lake

Situated at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain lies this breath taking beautiful small lake which is also connected with Dal – Lake. You can also stay on the houseboat on Nigeen – Lake with its stunning panoramic view of mountains, shikara ride in the light blue waters will take you to outstanding experience of your life. Manasbal – Lake

The state of Jammu & Kashmir can boast of being globally famous for the breath taking beauty of its lakes. Manasbal – Lake displays a scintillating view of the crystal clear waters. Manasbal – Lake is considered as the supreme gem of all Kashmir lakes for its lotus production. It is the deepest lake of Kashmir valley.

Wular – Lake

This is one of the largest fresh water lakes in Asia and is at a distance of 40 kms from Srinagar. This lake is spread over an area of 189 sq kms and has length of 16 kms. The lake is surrounded by mountains and thick forests. River Jhelum flows into the Wular – lake and is considered a major source of its water. Wular Lake is one of the largest sources of fresh water fish in Kashmir. It is estimated that 60% of the fish consumed in Kashmir comes from Wular – Lake. The Wular – Lake Attractions are shikara – ride, fishing, swimming, excursion to Watlab, Lolab – valley, Bangus – valley. The Wular – Lake can be reached by river as well as by road.

Vehicles leave Srinagar for a day trip to Wular – Lake via Anchar – Lake, Safapora, Manasbal and Bandipora. The Shikara trek will lead you to Wular – Lake through the waters of River Jhelum via Baramulla and Sopore.

 Gadsar – Lake

This is one of the high altitude lake surrounded by alpine flowers and large green grass. Picturesquely situated the lake is at a distance of 28 kms from Sonamarg and 5000 meters above sea level. Gadsar is famous for trout fishing and the lake inhabits brown coloured fish. The major attraction is fishing and trekking towards some beautiful spots like Gangabal, Nandakul and Satsar – Lake.

 Gangabal – Lake

Amongst many high altitude lakes Gangabal – Lake is well known high altitude lake. If you trek from Sonamarg to Naranag you will come across lakes of Kishensar, Vishensar and Gangabal. These lakes are full of trout fish. These lakes are surrounded by some of the world’s best scenery.

 Mansar – Lake

This beautiful lake is situated in Jammu and is considered sacred for pilgrims. It is famous amongst the tourists visiting Jammu. The lake is at a distance of 62 kms from Jammu. This lake is highly revered by Hindu’s. Major attractions are boating in the lake and “parikrama” (walking around the lake) which is believed to bring food, fortune to newly wed couples. Sheshnag temple is situated on the banks of the Mansar – Lake.

 Tso – moriri – Lake

This salt water Lake is about 13000 feet above sea level, 29 kms in length and 8 kms in breadth. Tso moriri is situated at a distance of 240 kms from Leh in the Changthang area at an altitude of 4595 meters (15080 ft) in Ladakh. Tso moriri – Lake is 16 miles in length and 3 miles in breadth. It is one of the mountain lakes in Leh. While travelling forwards from Chushul one reaches to this beautiful Lake. Tso – moriri Lake – the area is known as one  of the beautiful  high altitude picnic spots. Tsokar – White Water Lake is at a distance of 6 kms from Tso – moriri.

The area attracts wide range of wild life surrounded by mountains – the lake attracts animals like cows, goats, yaks, asses and wolves.

Tso – moriri amazingly beautiful and isolated the high altitude Tso – Moriri Lake is less than 250 kms situated southeast of Leh. One has to have a permit for visiting to this lake. It is advisable to visit the lake with an organized tour from Leh with expert guide which includes camping equipment and cook.

 Pangong – Lake

Pangong – Lake Excursion starts from Lukung and presently tourists are allowed to visit upto Lukung only. The lake shore presents beautiful scenery and one can reach upto Chushul.

MUGHAL GARDEN – SHALIMAR

was built by Mughal Emperor Jehangir for his wife Noor Jehan. Shalimar Garden is 15 kilometres from Tourist Reception Centre Srinagar and is one of the beautiful gardens in Kashmir. Mighty Chinars, colourful flower beds, gushing water channel, lush green lawns, fountain and the terraced lawns make the garden a delight for visitors. The Garden was built in 1619 AD .

 Mughal Garden – Nishat   

is 11 kilometres from Tourist Reception Centre Srinagar and is the largest Mughal Garden in Srinagar Kashmir. This famous Mughal Garden is on the slopes of the Zabarwan Mountain and is facing world famous Dal Lake. The Garden presents panoramic view of its beauty be it multi coloured flower beds, lush green terraced lawns, gushing water channel, mighty Chinars it has everything that makes it a distinctive Garden amongst all the Mughal Gardens in Kashmir.  This garden was built by Asaf  Khan the  brother of Noor Jahan wife of Emperor Jahangir in year 1632 A.D.

 Pari Mahal

is known to have been built by Mughal prince Dara Shikoh as a place of learning. Situated on the Zabarwan mountain range overlooking the Dal lake has a very beautiful garden. It was a Buddhist monastery which was turned into a school of astrology by Dara Shikoh is today one of the most sought excursion place in Srinagar.

 Chashma Shahi

located at the foothills of Zabarwan mountains is a terraced garden carved out of the slopes of the Zabarwan mountain. It is very famous for its pure drinking water spring as it is said that the same has medicinal properties and is very well for digestion. The garden was originally built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in 1632 AD.

On approach to the Chashma Shahi is a famous Botanical Garden which extends over an area of about 80 hectares and has 1.5 lakh ornamental plants. The Botanical garden is laid in terraces and is a place of research for the students and teachers. It has four sections – Recreational Garden, Botanical Garden, Research Section and Plant introduction Centre.
